Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment of the SET HASDM Database

The High Accuracy Satellite Drag Model (HASDM) is the operational thermospheric density model used by US Space Force Combined Operations Center. By using real-time data assimilation, HASDM can provide estimates with increased accuracy over other empirical models. With historical being released publicly for first time, we analyze to compare dominant modes of variability in upper atmosphere as modeled and Jacchia-Bowman 2008 Empirical Thermospheric Density (JB2008), a Jacchia family upon which corrections are made part framework. This comparison conducted through use principal component analysis (PCA) shows dataset. We highlight HASDM's ability capture movement lighter species during solar minimum conditions, unlike many then from both models CHAllenging Minisatellite Payload (CHAMP) Gravity Recovery Climate Experiment (GRACE) accelerometer-derived estimates. that more closely matches densities mean absolute differences compared CHAMP GRACE-A, respectively. also reveals improved representation cooling mechanisms due NO CO2 database.
